Default GWpro and iTG/GGL sponosred tournament

It appears as if I've caused quite a stir in the GW pro community. At the Team Quitter forum I have begun to arrange a private GW tournament and have already received strong positive feedback. You can read the entire thread here: http://www.teamquitter.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=634.

The current game plan is going to begin with Team Quitter selecting an opponent for the first Spotlight match of the week. This match will be broadcasted via Radio iTG and Stickam. VoD will be available of the match at http://www.overx.net, and a podcast will also be available through iTunes. The winner of this match will then be able to select their opponent for the following week.

Dependant on popular demand this will turn into a weekly best-of-three, single elimination tournament. It will follow virtually the same format of the 2k4survivor series I currently commentate. Players will sign up for the tournament on a forum, the first 8 teams registered will get their bid for the competition. Teams will have to "check in" at #gwp fifteen to thirty minutes before the tournament. The top 3 teams will earn the top three seeds in the following weeks competition and the lower 5 teams will sit out that week allowing another 5 teams to participate (provided 5 additional teams sign up).

However before the competition begins I would like to test out a new format I'm working on currently called "GWpro". GWpro is played using the stock GvG format; however with a reduced player roster and alternate winning conditions. I am proposing these changes to make it easier for teams to form up and place a stronger focus on killing your opponent, ranther than killing NPCs. I want to test out this playstyle on Saturday, 10-Feb-07. Participants are encouraged to form up teams of their own and create their own builds. However if you are a single player, or a small group of players feel free to sign up as well. I will do my best to make sure as many people are on teams as possible as well as provide example team templates to help coordination.

Currently GWpro is played 5v5 with the winning condition coming with who has higher team status (Morale + NPC Advantage) at 20 minutes. Players are encouraged to run flags to gain morale just like normal GvG. Although; killing the Guild Lord currently will result in a disqualification, this may change in the future. For our first test any and all skills will be aloud, but this may change to a Prophecies + Core only standard for balance confidence. I have also had ideas on restricting skills to static templates by team or player. This will make it easier for teams to form up, easier for spectators to follow and pick up the game with, as well as put the power of balance into the players hands. However we will explore those possibilities if the first test is successful. Map selection will also be open for the first test; although it will probably be narrowed down to the five most balanced maps just like any other professional tournament format.

I will be broadcasting over Inside The Game as well as Stickam at http://www.overx.net. Call-ins will be accepted over skype during and shortly after the event discussing what you liked about the format, what you disliked, and what improvements we could make. Remember the objectives of GWpro is to create a balanced, easy to learn, and easy to coordinate system for competitive Guild Wars which focuses on killing your opponent rather than exploiting AI. The system needs to be fun to play. However we are not trying to create a system which encourages a specific tactic; Be it splitting, spiking, or skirmishing.

There is not a lot of time before this Saturday, so if you or a team of friends are interested in participating please let me know as soon as possible. The playtest will begin at 11pst/14est/20cet and last for 2 hrs. I'll keep the skype lines open for as long as I can afterword; however I may have a CPMA CTF match with some iTG members during the day. You can email me at [email protected] if you want to participate. And add i208khonsu to your skype before hand if you are planning on calling in.

I thank everybody in advance who is willing and able to take the fate of Guild Wars finally into the hands of the players. Please feel free to redistribute this word for word anywhere you want to gather support.
